Guide to windows and doors on Gran Canaria

Materials, profiles, glazing and installation – what to consider when replacing windows or doors in a property on the island.

Window installation in a home on Gran Canaria

PVC, aluminium or timber

PVC provides good sound and thermal insulation, requires little maintenance and is unaffected by salt air. Aluminium allows slimmer profiles and large glazed areas, withstands the climate well and is available in various finishes and dual-colour options, with one colour outside and another inside.

Timber gives a warm appearance but requires more maintenance in sunny and coastal locations. Your choice affects both indoor comfort and how often the windows need attention.

  • PVC windows and doors
  • Aluminium profiles
  • Dual colour – different colours inside and out
  • Timber and wood-effect finishes
  • Sliding windows and sliding glazed units
  • Insect screens and solar shading

Sliding doors and glazing onto terraces

Sliding doors are common on terraces and balconies because they take up no space when opened. We replace complete units and also repair existing doors with stiff rollers, worn tracks or poor seals.

Glazing, sealing and installation

Insulated glazing reduces solar heat gain and noise from outside. Sealing and installation are just as important – a good window fitted poorly will let in both air and water.

We measure, order and install, then make good the surrounding walls and plaster or render.

Rules in your comunidad

Many residential complexes have rules on colours, profiles and the external appearance of the façade. Check what applies before ordering so that the windows can be approved.

Frequently asked questions

What is best suited to a location near the sea?
Both PVC and aluminium are used in coastal areas. Durability depends on the finish, hardware and how the unit is installed and sealed.
Can you repair rather than replace?
Often, yes. Stiff sliding doors can be repaired, and worn rollers, tracks and seals can be replaced without replacing the entire unit.
